Ms D Fretten BA Hons PSHE Ed Coordinator Mrs D Lee MA, LRAM, ARCM Mrs F Williamson BEd Hons Personal, Social, Health & Economic Education Personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE Ed) is about the whole child and deals with aspects of a pupils’ life that contribute to the process of growing up, getting on with others, the formation of values and attitudes and preparation for adult life as individuals, members of families and of the wider community. Crucial to the PSHE Ed scheme of work is the wider government agenda: Every Child Matters - Being Healthy, Staying Safe, Enjoying and Achieving, Making a Positive Contribution and Economic Well-being (Green Paper 2003). PSHE Ed enables pupils to reflect upon and clarify their own values and attitudes and explore the complex and sometimes conflicting range of values and attitudes they encounter now and in the future. Pupils acquire both knowledge and understanding of themselves, their development, their relationships with others and the wider issues of society and the world. This term (on Wednesday 6th October 2010) we are running a "Play Your Part" workshop to promote good citizenship in Year 8. In partnership with Parents R Us (drug awareness), Gang Awareness Project, the Red Cross and the Prison Service, Bristol Police Youth Team will deliver sessions on a carousel basis throughout the day. There will also be workshops on community cohesion and personal safety. The scheme encourages children to respect others and the law and to have the courage to stand up for what is right. |
