The Dolphin Primary School
Proposed changes to The Dolphin School Admissions Policy 2015-16
The Dolphin School opened in September 2012 in response to an increasing demand for primary places in North Bristol and to further develop the educational vision of the Colston’s Girls’ School Trust. At the time specific shortfalls in the supply of places was identified by council officers and a catchment area was put in place to reflect this.
This has been kept under review by the Trust governing body, particularly in terms of the changing demand for places within the local community. In addition, the consultation regarding the planned new school buildings has raised important and relevant points. Having held discussions with council officers, councillors, local representatives, current and future parents, the governors have decided to consult on amending the catchment area to more readily reflect local needs.
The proposed revised catchment area, alongside the admissions policy, is detailed below.
The consultation is for children who will be entering the school in September 2015. It will not affect current applications for children joining the school in September 2014.
Colston’s Girls’ School Trust, as its own Admissions Authority, has responsibility for coordinating admission with Local Authorities.
This consultation on and setting of admission arrangements for 2015/16 is being conducted in accordance with the guidance issued in the School Admissions Code under Section 84 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 (SSFA 1998).
The Academy is required to undertake consultation for a period of at least 8 weeks between midnight 15 December 2013 and midnight 9 February 2014. The Consultation period will be completed on 1 March 2014.
You are invited to review the attached draft policy that has been approved, in principle, by the Academy's Governing Body and advise of any comments you may wish to make, in writing, by no later than 28 February 2014. You may also reply to indicate your support of the draft proposed.
